Abstract

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a current pandemic that mainly affects African and Latin American countries and is considered a public health problem; its prevalence has increased a 27% in the last decade. HIV compromises the immune system, making the individual susceptible to opportunistic diseases. It has been reported that up to 80% of patients have ear, nose, or throat manifestations, with oral manifestations being the most common. It’s extremely important to study otorhinolaryngological findings, since many of them can be highly suggestive of HIV infection, as well as represent advanced disease, failure of anti-retroviral treatment or severe immunosuppression. Therefore, our objective is to review the literature on the most frequently manifestations associated with HIV by collecting clinical trials, meta-analyses and systematic reviews.
