Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in cancer patients seems to induce higher severity and mortality. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics, severity and mortality rate in adult cancer patients with COVID-19. Methods and material: Review of literature from January 1st to May 31st 2020 and combined analysis of individual data. Results: Twenty-six studies were analyzed, 3,700 cases and 718 deaths (19.4%), the men represented 51.6%. Systemic arterial hypertension was reported in 34.9%, diabetes mellitus 16.6%, and obesity 18%. Breast (23.7%), gastrointestinal (14.4%) and lung cancer (11.5%) predominated; 40.6% had received cancer treatment within 30 days. Frequent symptoms were fever (65.1%), cough (46.8%), dyspnea (40.1%), fatigue (25%), and diarrhea (9.5%). The infection was severe in 27.8% and critical in 11.8%. The 63.3% required hospitalization and 11.3% intensive care. Additionally, 61.1% of them required supplementary oxygen, 17.2% non-invasive ventilation, and 9.1% oro-tracheal intubation. It was not possible to identify factors associated with severity and mortality. Conclusions: COVID-19 in adults with cancer was severe or critical in 40% of cases; furthermore, 30% requires hospitalization and ventilatory support. The mortality rate was 19.4%.
