Background: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, extensive population studies were conducted detailing the characteristics of those who contracted the disease. It was at this time that it was observed that a considerable proportion of those affected presented, both at admission and during the disease, acute kidney injury (AKI). The incidence of this condition was reported in several case series, reaching up to 56.9%. This study arises from the need to confront the disease and is based on the knowledge of this research to demonstrate whether these characteristics are also met in the Mexican population. Objective: To associate the relationship between AKI as a prognostic factor and the increase in the mortality rate in patients who presented SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients in the Hospital Juárez de México Emergency Area. Method: An observational, analytical, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out, including 606 patient files who met the definition for a suspected or confirmed case for SARS-CoV-2 infection, admitted to the Hospital Juárez México in the April 2020 to March 2021 period. Results: Gender prevalence, a total of 402 male patients (66%) and 206 female patients (34%). It was observed in the present research work that the presence of comorbidities associated with AKI presented an increase in the mortality rate of the population of the Hospital Juárez de México. Conclusion: In our population, the presence of comorbidities such as systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and obesity have been shown to have an impact on the development of AKI in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The development of AKI in patients with comorbidities, such as SAH or obesity, had a direct relationship with the increase in the mortality rate.
